COATINGS RATING

So many coating companies selling bathtub refinishing supplies, resins, epoxies, top coat, paints, etc. Which one do you choose, or better yet where do you go to even find the stuff???
Let me into a secret, almost all coating/paint companies are selling bathtub coatings are making all there coatings so cheap because a bathtub is considered a "water/moisture splash area" Not a submersion fixture.
What does this mean??? It means that the coating that these supposed coating companies are selling are only splash rated NOT submersible. In short it really means the coating is not meant to be underwater at all!
Now why would a coatings company that is making bathtub paint make a coating like this???
uhmmmmm, let me think... Maybe because they are trying to make as much profit as possible and if they keep selling there coating then who cares!
I only use submersible coatings.
The next time you consider a refinishing company to do anything with your bathtub or shower area consider asking them if there coating is really submersible, because you know it only makes sense to put a submersible water proof coating on your bathtub, but ask them anyways I bet they don't even really know!

I totally agree John, this couldn't be more true!
Why wouldnt they make a totally water proof coat for the tub. They make coatings like that, why not. Besides they make it for outside steal water tanks dont they?

EAH Sharks Grip has not had a Tub peel in 7 years. Personally I want to thank napco. They send so much business I our way.

What was the topcoat you used. Was it Napco 320?

Ya Gary, it was the 320 topcoat with the wipe on prime in a bag system.
I love the concept however as you can see it totally failed!!!... Worst part is Mike Ripp didn't even refund me anything and he openly admitted that from time to time NAPCOs products do fail!
I just can't use an unreliable product like that!
So much for Mike Ripps dedication to 100% satisfaction, however I did take care of my client with in 48hrs. Maybe NAPCO should consider the same.

Thanks Kris,
Its a shame these guys just don't see value in keeping there customer base happy. I spoke to the owner of NAPCO and this guy couldn't care, and he admitted that there product fails from time to time.
Well thanks to Gary I'm a member of PBRA and a E.A.H. customer for life!
I really believe that if enough people would speak up and stop buying there product from companies they would close up or change for the better.
Only support suppliers that are truly concerned about a great product.
As a career refinisher I strongly hold a great reliance on my products to perform for me consistently every time I apply a coating service. My lively-hood is my families lively-hood. Why would you want to threaten my family??? Build a good product, its a simple answer, YES you can. So why not do it and we all can have a better life.

They are so far out of touch with reality. I'm also a career refinisher. everything I have depends on my ability to provide a good service. And I have dealt with my share of bad coatings. It seams you have to take the hit. And do the best you can with what you got. I remember a few years back I was using a coating , it seamed ok at the time but 3 months later I had to redo over 60 tubs. On my dime. Needless to say I stopped buying from that co. And tried to mend my wounds. I really like that video and it will cost them more than they think. I for one will never from them again. Thanks

did you use the wipe on prime system or etched prime system???
I did alot of tubs with there etch prime system, I think close to 30-40 jobs done that way till I became brave enough to try the rag in a bad thing. Common sense kicked in then I take that video of that famous tub peel video.
I can only assume these are the same guys that did you as me?
How long you been with the PBRA?

No it wasn't the same .it was actually an etch and epoxie primer system that would not stick.
I'm new to the PBRA. I find that when allot of people get together in an association like this one it benefits all of its members. lets keep it going strong and post allot..

Hey Kris,
Great to here from you!
After over a year of testing we are launching our new resin system. To say the least this will change the industry for the better.
With a killer bonding agent, mid coat rebuilder that will fill any surface imperfections, then an awesome shine restating coat. A three layered system with over 50 mill build will have over a 20 year life expectancy.
That's better then even a bran new bathtub!
Test samples for other refinishers will be available sometime early spring.
Happy new year everyone!
